Monica Jones – Founder/CEO

Monica Jones is a licensed counselor and scholar consultant specializing in academic advising, college/career readiness, scholarships and NCAA Eligibility. She is the creator and coordinator of the annual College Palooza.  Monica possesses a Bachelor of Arts Degree in Communications/Theater Concentration, Masters of Arts Degrees in Education Administration, Sports Administration and Guidance and Counseling.   Monica has been instrumental in aiding students with college readiness and acquiring millions of dollars in scholarships as well as a number of Gates Millennium Scholars. As an educator, her greatest accomplishment has been the outstanding achievements of her students.

Anitra
Anitra Burnell is a graduate of Oakland University where she obtained a degree in Industrial Safety and Health. She was a safety director and production supervisor in the automotive industry for several years. Deciding to become a teacher in 2005, Anitra attended Saginaw Valley State University and Concordia University to obtain her Master of Science Degree in Educational Leadership. She has been teaching for 12 years and has a wealth of experience that she brings to the classroom. Anitra has taught alternative and adult education. She is currently a Chemistry teacher at Saginaw High School in Saginaw, Michigan. Anitra is a participant on the Senior Success Team.
Thiera
Thiera D Lane is a graduate of Michigan State University and Community Counselor. She received her Masters Degree in Community Counseling from Oakland University and a Certified National Counselor through the National Board of Certified Counselors (NBCC). Thiera is currently employed with a metropolitan Detroit area non profit that focuses on the betterment of girls and women everywhere. Presently, Thiera is pursuing her doctoral degree in clinical psychology at University of Detroit Mercy.
 
Lehman
Lehman Robinson hails from Southeast Michigan and is a first generation college student. He is a recent graduate from the University of Michigan – Ann Arbor with a degree in Psychology. Like many college students, Lehman went through an array of major and career changes throughout his undergraduate career. After his exposure to human resources and organization management, he learned that his heart lie in a different field. Lehman was particularly interested in organization development and planning thus, Industrial/Organizational Psychology seemed like a good fit for him. Outside of Building Scholars, Lehman serves as a college adviser with the Michigan College Advising Corps. He is also an active learner of the Arabic language. Lehman plans to pursue a Masters Degree in Higher Education and hopes to continue working in pre-college programming or Student Affairs Administration. Lehman’s end goal is to work in Higher Education policy.

Thank you so much for the detailed information. I’m pleased to report that we’re on the right track!  My daughter surprised me with how focused she is. We’re going to visit Ball State in October and hopefully Spelman this Spring.

    I had a great experience with The Scholars specifically Lehman Robinson! He gave great advice about the college recruiting process and approaching college essays. Thanks to his guidance, I have been accepted to schools of my choice! The Building Scholars organization is a great asset to those who need assistance in their college process and should be used by all students!
